Production of Conidia of Alternaria cassiae with Alginate Pellets
نویسنده
چکیده
Formulations of alginate-encapsulated mycelia are used to generate spores for mycoherhicidal application to weed-infested fields and for bulk production of spore-based products. Spore yield of such formulations is a primary determinant of product efficacy. A number of parameters of the alginate process were studied to develop an optimal alginate formulation for field application of Alternaria cassiae, a mycoherbicide for sicklepod (Cassia obtusifolia). The composition of the fermentation medium and of the filler used in formulation and the fermentation time were important variables. The addition of nutrients to the mycelial homogenate after fermentation increased sporulation but the amount and ratio of nutrients in the fermentation medium had a greater influence on spore yield from pellets. Optimal sporulation resulted from mycelia produced during a 60to 70-h fermentation in 2.4% dehydrated potato dextrose broth and 14% V-S vegetable juice and entrapped in pellets containing corn cob grits as the filler.

Comparison of methodologies for conidia production by Alternaria alternata from citrus
Conidia production is a problem in the study of Alternaria alternata from citrus. Thus, this study aimed to compare existing methodologies for conidial production of A. alternata isolated from Ponkan tangerine (2 isolates), Cravo lemon (1 isolate), Pêra orange (2 isolates) and Murcott tangor (1 isolate). The methodologies used were conidia production with 12 and 24 hours under white fluorescent...

Alternaria conidia are among the airborne biological particles known to trigger allergic respiratory diseases. The presented paper reports on a study of seasonal variations in airborne Alternaria conidia concentrations in 2 cities in the central Spanish region of Castilla-La Mancha, Albacete and Toledo. The influence of weather-related variables on airborne conidia levels and distribution was a...
متن کاملCharacteristics of a hydrated, alginate-based delivery system for cultivation of the button mushroom.
The production of the button mushroom Agaricus bisporus with mycelium-colonized alginate pellets as an inoculant of the growing medium was investigated. Pellets having an irregular surface and porous internal structure were prepared by complexing a mixture of 1% sodium alginate, 2 to 6% vermiculite, 2% hygramer, and various concentrations of Nutrisoy (soy protein) with calcium chloride. The por...

Objective(s) The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of production of ibuprofen pellets with high amount of rate retarding polymer by aid of PEG400 as plasticizer. Materials and Methods Polyethylene glycol (PEG400) in concentrations of 1, 3 or 5% w/w with respect to Eudragit RL was used in production of pellets containing 60% ibuprofen and 40% excipient (2% polyvinylpyrrolid...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of the grain mold fungi Cochliobolus and Alternaria spp. from sorghum using semiselective media and DNA sequence analyses.
Mold diseases, caused by fungal complexes including Alternaria, Cochliobolus, and Fusarium species, limit sorghum grain production. Media were tested by plating Fusarium thapsinum, Alternaria sp., and Curvularia lunata, individually and competitively. Dichloran chloramphenicol rose bengal (DRBC) and modified V8 juice (ModV8) agars, found to be useful, were compared with commonly used agar media...
